Giving this one 5 ⭐️ because it’s easily my favorite in the series so far。 The hunt in Archer’s Peak was exciting, don’t get me wrong, but I loved getting a glimpse into Erica’s past。 I hope this storyline continues。Erica gets recruited after a monster kills her family and friend (the monster that’s trapped in Octo)。 Unable to kill her, fellow Black Mask Jessica brings Erica back to Chicago to the headquarters。 Erica must then survive the cruel initiation into the Order of Saint George to become Giving this one 5 ⭐️ because it’s easily my favorite in the series so far。 The hunt in Archer’s Peak was exciting, don’t get me wrong, but I loved getting a glimpse into Erica’s past。 I hope this storyline continues。Erica gets recruited after a monster kills her family and friend (the monster that’s trapped in Octo)。 Unable to kill her, fellow Black Mask Jessica brings Erica back to Chicago to the headquarters。 Erica must then survive the cruel initiation into the Order of Saint George to become a monster Hunter。 This volume gave us much-need clarity into the Order and added depth to Erica’s character。 I lowkey hope this story turns into Erica taking down the Order (or at least the Dragon), because they’re corrupt AF。 I love the relationships within the Black Masks, particularly that of Aaron + Erica。 Jessica feels like a motherly type character。 Has me worried she’s gonna die, though。One more thing I love: how they transfer the monster *into* the kids’ stuffed animals or childhood toys。 The symbolism there is especially powerful。 。。。more

This volume dives deeper into who Erica is and answers some questions。 It stands out as a highlight in the series so far。

a peek back in time to see how our badass monsters-that-kill-children slayer came to be in her line of work。 great stuff, gorgeous artwork, the whole series has been fantastic and deliciously horrible and violent, def recommend, love it etc, 5/5

Laura

I loved reading more about Erica’s background and how the House of Slaughter operates。

Oh autsch, Erika。 Ich habe vermutet, dass irgendwo dieser Vorwurf an sie lauern würde und dieser Band hat es jetzt bestätigt。Und Aaron, mein Herz, was mach ich nur mit dir? 💔

I like that this is an origin story for Erica。 It builds on stuff revealed in previous arcs, and generally adds some really awesome worldbuilding。 Plus, Gary’s awesome。 Can’t wait for more。

Catarina

A great beginning for a new story arc, filled with backstory and understanding of the house of slaughted and other hunters。

Tracy

Awesome volume, well worth waiting for。 So great to see how Erica came to the house of slaughter。

This one is more of a prequel, an origin story if you will, of Erica and how she came to be with the House of Slaughter。 I continue to enjoy this series。 Not quite as much carnage as the previous volumes as there's only a few deaths that we see。 This one is more of a prequel, an origin story if you will, of Erica and how she came to be with the House of Slaughter。 I continue to enjoy this series。 Not quite as much carnage as the previous volumes as there's only a few deaths that we see。 。。。more

Rating is for vols 1-4 read back to backThreading the needle between not enough information and over-exposition slowing down the story is no easy task, Tynion does it well, and all 4 volumes flow in a tight story that avoids the cheap tropes and lazy cliffhangers so common to horror tales。

This is the beginning of Erica’s story。 It tells how Erica lost her family and how she joined the Order of St George。 It also tells a little bit more about the Order itself, and why Erica doesn’t always agree with what the Order does。 This was an excellent start to Erica’s backstory, which is an interesting story in it’s own right。 Looking forward to reading more of Erica’s story。

Great back story with Erica, showing how she came to be a Slaughter。 This has become a 5-star series, if it wasn't already。 Very highly recommended。 Great back story with Erica, showing how she came to be a Slaughter。 This has become a 5-star series, if it wasn't already。 Very highly recommended。 。。。more

Ooohhhh…interesting。 The final installment of this four part series is an Erica Slaughter prequel😗I’m curious to know why this is presented after the initial plot ends and not in the second or third slot but as an Erica Slaughter fan, I can’t really complain too much。 This prequel does very well at filling in the gaps with Erica’s introduction to being a monster hunter as well as a much more fleshed out understanding of how this society of monster hunters functions。 This final piece of the puzzl Ooohhhh…interesting。 The final installment of this four part series is an Erica Slaughter prequel😗I’m curious to know why this is presented after the initial plot ends and not in the second or third slot but as an Erica Slaughter fan, I can’t really complain too much。 This prequel does very well at filling in the gaps with Erica’s introduction to being a monster hunter as well as a much more fleshed out understanding of how this society of monster hunters functions。 This final piece of the puzzle brings a true feeling of finality to this entire world we’ve been immersed in。 I’m gonna miss these characters。 CW: blood, gore, murder, violence, death, grief 。。。more

One of my favorite comics currently in printSomething is Killing the Children is so much more than just a story of a monster hunter。 Tynion has painted us a picture & captured our attention into the folklore behind the Order of St。 George。 We were already invested, meeting Erica Slaughter in the field, but now we're given the opportunity to Deep dive into her origins。 I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves great storytelling & character development。 One of my favorite comics currently in printSomething is Killing the Children is so much more than just a story of a monster hunter。 Tynion has painted us a picture & captured our attention into the folklore behind the Order of St。 George。 We were already invested, meeting Erica Slaughter in the field, but now we're given the opportunity to Deep dive into her origins。 I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves great storytelling & character development。 。。。more

Don’t love flashback exposition / backfill / etcetera, but the artwork, character design, and dark lustre of this lore dump help me along with forgiving all that。 Feels a little like a small coda to the previous stretch, or a bridge to just wherever it is the series is gonna go next after such a full and finished arc。 I’m not even sure where Tynion & co。 should go from here, but it’d be nice to see Erica not dealing with big overarching house of slaughter lore and do some monster of the week shi Don’t love flashback exposition / backfill / etcetera, but the artwork, character design, and dark lustre of this lore dump help me along with forgiving all that。 Feels a little like a small coda to the previous stretch, or a bridge to just wherever it is the series is gonna go next after such a full and finished arc。 I’m not even sure where Tynion & co。 should go from here, but it’d be nice to see Erica not dealing with big overarching house of slaughter lore and do some monster of the week shit for a little while。 Idk。 I’m not fussy。 。。。more

I have devoured this series。 Really could not put it down。 This one was less exciting and intense but it was still good。 This was the origin of our main character and an explanation of what the Order is。 I liked the back story, just not much happened, to move the story along but yet I still read it in a flash!

Erica’s backstory, or more probably the first of three arches on her past, since there are three critical steps to progress in the ranks of the House of Slaughter。 It’s a fairly standard backstory, not many surprises or new elements to chew on, but the narrative is still intense and the art is beautifully delivered, especially in the horror parts。 The universe is slowly expanding - different roles depending on the colour of the bandana, possible different type of monsters - and I can’t wait to s Erica’s backstory, or more probably the first of three arches on her past, since there are three critical steps to progress in the ranks of the House of Slaughter。 It’s a fairly standard backstory, not many surprises or new elements to chew on, but the narrative is still intense and the art is beautifully delivered, especially in the horror parts。 The universe is slowly expanding - different roles depending on the colour of the bandana, possible different type of monsters - and I can’t wait to see what’s next。 。。。more

Well, I have not fallen in love with a world in a long time。 This book is stellar。 This what Buffy could have been。 Maybe what it should have been。 The comparison is not very good, but also perfect。

Erica Slaughter and the House of Slaughter are back! This origin story was absolutely amazing and a good refresher after finishing the first three volumes months ago。 I thought they would just jump into another adventure but I'm glad they made this as a prequel instead。 You could probably read this before the first three, as that is how it would go chronologically, but this provided some much needed (and wanted!) This series consistently delivers。 The mystery and intrigue that was drip fed about Erica's backround is given an origin story。 The dialogue is sharp, the art work remains solid, and I'm down with wherever Tynion want to take us next。I do have a challenge with the panel layouts。 I have read a tonne of comics over the years and I still stumble on which panel comes next it switches from wide 2 page panel to single page and just seems odd at times when your not sure which dialogue comes next and yo This series consistently delivers。 The mystery and intrigue that was drip fed about Erica's backround is given an origin story。 The dialogue is sharp, the art work remains solid, and I'm down with wherever Tynion want to take us next。I do have a challenge with the panel layouts。 I have read a tonne of comics over the years and I still stumble on which panel comes next it switches from wide 2 page panel to single page and just seems odd at times when your not sure which dialogue comes next and you've skipped half of the convo。。。 。。。more

4/5So now the previous story came to a conclusion, there is a new story ahead。 The vol4 despite being the last was a prequel to Erica's story。 I love the world building。 Her origin story is well written and so right for the character。 We also get a glimpse of hers and her rival's past。 It was simple and smart。 It was indeed the ground building for HOUSE OF SLAUGHTER。 I'm so looking forward to That, specially knowing it's dedicated to Aaron's story, I'm just a Ball of anticipation and can't wait 4/5So now the previous story came to a conclusion, there is a new story ahead。 The vol4 despite being the last was a prequel to Erica's story。 I love the world building。 Her origin story is well written and so right for the character。 We also get a glimpse of hers and her rival's past。 It was simple and smart。 It was indeed the ground building for HOUSE OF SLAUGHTER。 I'm so looking forward to That, specially knowing it's dedicated to Aaron's story, I'm just a Ball of anticipation and can't wait to dive into the first 4 issues。 。。。more

We dive into the origins of Erica Slaughter as a member of the Order Of St。 George and get some clarification on the order itself。 It doesn't zip by like the previous volumes, since it's exposition and not just a wild death-fueled romp, but it does read like a fun and helpful palate cleanser before we launch into whatever madness comes next。 We dive into the origins of Erica Slaughter as a member of the Order Of St。 George and get some clarification on the order itself。 It doesn't zip by like the previous volumes, since it's exposition and not just a wild death-fueled romp, but it does read like a fun and helpful palate cleanser before we launch into whatever madness comes next。 。。。more

Despite having the least amount of scares and action, I think this might be favorite volume of the series? Or, better said, it’s probably the most consistent of the series。 Slowing the pace down and going back in time does a tremendous favor to the world building and characterization。 It gives Tynion the space he needs to give some dimensions to a cast of characters, and Erika specifically, who have been mostly two-dimensional until now。 The volume retroactively improves the prior volumes by fle Despite having the least amount of scares and action, I think this might be favorite volume of the series?
